Division Head : Ananya Nair

Hi there! I’m Ananya, a second year Law student from Bombay, India! I am also your International Welfare Officer and the Editor of the Castle Crier.

The Homelessness Division supports the local community vulnerable homeless population by working with the Salvation Army in Sanctuary 21. During the week, students are assigned to volunteer during the morning and afternoon hours in slots, preparing warm food and hot drinks for the guests, while simultaneously interacting with them.

We organise Saturday Night Meals every week where a group of students prepare hot dinners for our guests in the same café. From collection drives towards the end of Michaelmas, the division also works with the county council for other campaigns and activities.

We would love to have new and old students join us to volunteer in any and very capacity. The Homelessness division strives to be a safe place for students and a great integration point with the local community. It is never too late to join us! We are always looking for enthusiasm and initiative! Moreover, volunteering also is a great way to make friends with likeminded students from all years with the advantage of also having socials!

Come say hi whenever you see me in college or at the Fresher’s Fair. You can email me at ananya.nair@durham.ac.uk or cca.homelessness@durham.ac.uk or message me personally or the CCA page on Facebook! Looking forward to seeing you!
