University College Women’s Athletic Football Club (UCWAFC)

Welcome! UCWAFC is undoubtedly one of Castle’s most successful teams. The last two seasons have seen us win the league and get promoted to the Premiership, get chosen to play Varsity against York, win Castle’s ‘Club of the Year’ and reach the Floodlit Cup Semi-Finals. We’re a very inclusive and friendly team, with a passion for promoting women in football and throughout college, so our team goes beyond the pitch. We have training once a week, with matches most weekends, so it’s a super relaxed way to get involved in sport whilst at University. Anyone is welcome to come and have a go regardless of experience and ability, but if football isn’t your thing we always welcome social members! We really want to have a space in College to celebrate women in Castle and enjoy incredible socials together. It’s a great way to meet a variety of people across the year groups and become a part of the best team in college. Feel free to follow us on Facebook (just search ‘UCWAFC’) and Instagram to stay updated on all things women’s football.

Hi, I’m Iona and I’ll be the women’s football captain for the 2023/24 season! I’m very excited to welcome back the team, as well as hopefully meet some new members. I’m a second year studying Italian and Spanish and have really loved my time at UCWAFC, from reaching the Semi-Finals of the Floodlit Cup to dressing up for ridiculous socials. I’m more than happy to chat if you see me around College, football related or not! I cannot stress enough the importance UCWAFC has had in shaping my University experience so far, it really is one of the best clubs to join if you’re looking to make some great friends across the year groups. I hope to see lots of you throughout the year! UCWAFC love, Iona xxx
