University College Running Club

Running. At the worst of times this sport can just seem like a bundle of mud and pain. However, there’s a lot more to it than that. Running is about setting and reaching targets whilst making plenty of friends along the way. As the Olympics have shown us for centuries, the mere movement of limbs can create legends. If you fancy becoming a Castle legend like Lola, then get yourself down to our weekly sessions and Parkrun every Saturday morning!

Welcome to Castle’s Running Society, a group of enthusiastic runners that train every week. Starting outside the Castle and going all around Durham on various different routes. We do a weekly social run, open for all abilities.

I ran competitively when I was younger and currently run with Durham City Harriers. I sought out the society in Freshers’ Week and found it such a great experience to meet others and get a physical and mental break from work! Running along the river or through the fields (with a visit to the dogs and alpacas every now and again) can get quite addictive in a city with views like Durham – it’s an amazing way to explore more of the city. This year, me and the rest of the executive committee are aiming to get involved with inter-college events, the Parkrun, and many socials along the way.

Whether you want to get fit, already train regularly, or run competitively, everybody is welcome to come along – lace up your trainers and join us!
