Lucia Luing Turnball

Ball Chair

Hello! My name is Lucia, I am a final year psychology student and I am the Ball Chair for the next academic year. Castle Hosts 3 Balls every year including Ladies Night and Halfway hall in Michaelmas and Epiphany terms. We also have the privilege of running one of the most prestigious balls in the UK: The June Ball. The June Ball began in 1889 as part of "June Week" that celebrated the of the end of Exams that academic year. It's format has changed significantly throughout its 135-year history and now stands as an event that allows Castle students to enjoy a three course meal, explore entertainment throughout the Castle and Palace green and hopefully make it to survivors breakfast at 5am the next morning to finish the 12 hour event (although I never have). The event has featured in the likes of Mastercard’s ‘Top Events Money Can’t Buy’, Tatler’s Bystander and The Guardian’s ‘Top 100 things to do before you die’.

The Balls are organised and run by a committee of over 40 students across all year groups. Being part of the Ball committee is a rewarding and sociable way to get stuck into University College. Applications to join the Ball Committee open very soon after Freshers’, and again during the middle of second term.
