Events

We run many events throughout the year, all JCR members are eligible for priority and subsidised tickets to these events. All events are run by student led committees that you can get involved with!

Freshtival

The first event of the year, held at the end of Fresher’s week. It is the first time that all Freshers and Returners unite and everyone comes back together for the year. It’s a great night and starts the year off with a bang!

CCA Charity Auction

The first black tie event of the year, CCA Charity Auction sees top prizes and experiences auctioned off, all in the name of charity. Every year, thousands of pounds are raised for some of the amazing charities that we support in Castle. It a night full of fun and a great introduction to some of the events that are run in Castle!

Ladies Night

Ladies Night is the first ball of the year and is a great event at the end of the first term. Its name originates from the tradition of the lady inviting their guest to attend the ball with them although this is no longer the case! The castle will be transformed and decorated according to a theme with entertainment and music provided until late! First year’s are given priority to this ball!

Halfway Hall

Halfway Hall is the second ball of the year and is held halfway through the second term. For second year’s, it marks the halfway point of their degree and for many is one of their best nights in Durham. Second year’s are given priority at this ball!

Castle Charity Fashion Show

CCFS is one of the highlights of the social calendar, it is our second large charity event where thousands of pounds are raised for our partner charities. Anyone can audition to be a model and take part and is a great night near the end of second term!

Castle Day

Castle Day occurs in the third term after exams are done, it starts in the afternoon and sees several bands perform, lots of entertainment provided and the annual Castle Ranger Challenge! It’s a great atmosphere where the whole college (MCR as well) join together and celebrate the end of the year in the sun (hopefully!).

The June Ball

The June Ball is the highlight of the Castle (and indeed Durham) calendar. Listed in Mastercard’s ‘Top events that money can’t buy’ and the Guradian’s ‘Top 100 things to do before you die’, The June Ball is the culmination of the year and the last event that Finalists will attend. It runs for 12 hours until 5am and the infamous Survivor’s breakfast. It’s the reason that many people apply to Castle and is one of the longest running traditions of the college, in the 1960’s ‘The Who’ performed at the ball! You can read more about the ball on the separate website: thejuneball.co.uk

This event is not one to miss!
