Christian Union

Who is Jesus anyway? Have you ever actually investigated? Do you know what he really said? What other historians say about him?

A warm welcome to freely find out!

At Castle CU, we believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of God, but we don’t just hold that position blindly. If the Bible can’t stand up to scrutiny, then it’s not worth bothering about. That’s why we consider the accounts of those such as Peter, who wrote that “we did not follow cunningly devised fables when we made known to you the power and coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, but were eyewitnesses of His majesty.”1 Jesus’ words are both gentle—“Come to me, all who labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest”2—and challenging: “For whoever desires to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for My sake and the gospel’s will save it. For what will it profit a man if he gains the whole world, and loses his own soul?”. 3

What prompted prominent men of learning to say that he was either Lord, liar or lunatic? It is the one most important thing to consider in life.

We seek to discern the truth of this matter, and we’d love to have you do that with us. Every Monday at 18:45 (check our socials for location), we join one another to delve, discuss, and debate what’s in the Bible. We might even play a game. No knowledge is assumed, and we welcome your viewpoint, wherever you are coming from. Sure, we may be called Castle Christian Union, but you don’t have to be a Christian to come. Come ready to think, ready to talk, and ready to learn and to help us learn, too.

After our time in College together, we head down to CU Central, where the Christian Union groups from all Durham’s colleges come together in one place for socialising, laughing, learning, and even a spot of singing. Both Castle and Durham CU arrange socials and other events which you are warmly invited to attend, whether you’ve come along weekly or not at all. Our socials pages will have the latest updates.

So now, the question is, will you come? Will you meet us, question us, discuss with us? See you on Monday.
