Environment
President: Alex Martin (alexander.martin@durham.ac.uk)
Do you want to help lead Castle into a sustainable future? Then the environment society is the society for you!
We’re still a relatively new society, but we did a lot to lay solid foundations last year, and we have big plans to build on that this year. We’re a diverse group of people but there’s one thing that binds us all: a passion for making the world more sustainable.
So what did we do last year? Well, some highlights include:
- Events like our Wilder Britain talk and our joint (with a few other societies) COP28 debrief, which involved some of our own Durham professors who went to COP
- Restoring our Castle allotment to its former glory
- Our unprecedented College Environment and Sustainability Policy
And how are we going to build on all that this year? Well, we are going to continue the above initiatives that worked well last year, and we’re going to do more of the fun stuff too: socials, competitions, film nights, to name but a few…
One of our main aims this year is going to be to get our new policy passed by the JCR and then to begin implementing it, as that will drive tangible change in college.
So, if you share our love for our planet, and want to do your bit to help protect it, come along and say hello at the Castle Freshers Fair and keep an eye on our socials to catch everything that is going on.
