Georgina Worton-Boughen

Union & Society Officer

Hello!
I am Georgina, University College's Union and Society Officer (USO)
My role is to oversee all sports, music, societies and performing arts activities within college. We have 40 sports and societies here at Castle, so there is never a dull moment!
For part of my role I attend and represent Castle at Durham Student Union meetings and also organise the yearly Castle Hatfield Day- a two day event of sporting and society competition against Hatfield college.
During Freshers week we host a Freshers Fair where you can see all the sports and societies on offer. I would really recommend coming along to see what you can get involved with. Taking part in sports and societies are where you will meet some of your closest friends, having fun both representing college and of course all the fantastic social endeavours college sports and societies get up to! Our sports and societies cater to all levels, from complete novices to the experienced, so everyone can get involved. We also offer taster sessions within the first couple of weeks of term so please come and give everything a go!

I am in my third year of my Geography BSc degree - and yes, I am great at colouring in!
I have been involved in college life over the past couple of years taking on roles such as the University College Boat Club Women's Captain, Castle's Fashion Show Administrator, Ball Committee Administrator and Creative Director, and the Sports Welfare Rep.
My favourite sport is Rowing (it really is my only personality trait!), and I am the Durham College Rowing Secretary this year too!
Please feel free to contact me about any enquires regarding sports or societies both in college or within the wider Durham University portfolio such as Team Durham Sports or Durham Music- I'm always happy to help :)
I will be around all of Freshers Week and will be running the Freshers Fair, so please do come say hi!

Favourite Castle Memory: My favourite castle memory is my first ever Castle formal where I met my college family. I remember thinking how the Great Hall felt like a scene out of Harry Potter and how nervous I was. I had a great time and I think my first introduction to a proper post formal boogie in Jimmies (they will never get old!). I sat with my college sister Lucia, who is now the Ball Chair and a very close friend. Both our college mum's were on the exec, with my college mum Saffron Hancock the USO two years ago, so Lucia and I are following in their footsteps- it clearly runs in the family!
